What is the best way to find full time employment in New Zealand?

I live in India and I have 12 years of IT experience. I have applied to migrate to New Zealand but I understand that process takes time. I would like to move quicker and get a job there right away. Are there any companies or recruiters that hire overseas candidates?

It is not easy – and you will probably find it particularly difficult from India Im afraid. The basic problem is that most agencies, and employers, will not talk to you until you are in the country and have the visa. There are no agencies or employers that specifically recruit overseas workers. If anyone tells you they can guarentee you a job (usually for a fee) – they are not telling the truth.

On saying that it IS possible to get a job in New Zealand from your home country – it is just very rare to do so. You should be checking www.seek.co.nz and www.trademe.co.nz in the jobs section: you will find the names of agencies you can contact, and try applying for jobs that you find.

Be patient. It took my Husband nearly 2 years to get a job in NZ while living in the UK. Interviews were held ove rthe phone and Video conferencing. If you manage to get a job offer – it will speed the VISA process considerably – but if you have enough points to get a Permanent Residence Visa without a job offer – then you will find it much easier to get a job once you are here.

You will also probably need to alter your CV to New Zealand tastes: thats a bit much to go into here – but Ive got a download of tips to help people here: http://www.avalonsguide.com/anab/downloads/

Hope that helps :)
