unemployment fired laid off
Laid off or fired?

I've been working for a software company for 10 months. Unexpectedly and without notice, I reported only my last day with them is 31 March (just after our largest software release). My manager mentioned that the management team are reevaluating the employees and the need to preserve the best to compete with big name companies. awards a few months ago i got from them thanks for their work …. what is happening? I feel like I was abused … I'm supposed to get a bonus of May (we've been working 12 hours a day for the past 4 months). Am I being laid off or fired? What should I do? "I can apply for unemployment? pls help

Not sure if you are in the U.S. but as you know we are in a period of stagflation and recession (though no one in Washington wants to admit it.) The last six months, I have had friends in different industries and different positions of job loss. Some were regular employees, some were the cream of the crop in his company, and one was even a Vice-President of a corporation made public. With the way the economy is going, nobody is safe. Many states are "employment at will" which means you can assign at any time without reason, and can leave the company and for any reason at any time. sounds suspect, and it would help if you told us that if there were others besides you. Some companies lay off many a time, others (like my company, which has 150 employees) dismiss one to three people a day, and we realized that a couple or a few days more will be added later. Try not to think too much if you get fired or outside any way you get unemployment. In the end, it all comes down to the fact that they no longer needed their services. When one thinks of "being fired" and puts the blame on the employee, while to be "fired" is that the blame away from the employee. For your own mental and emotional well being, consider yourself a "redundancy" – to help you feel better and safer when you go to find a new job. Start looking for jobs now and going on interviews, mostly because they know when your last day will be. You are lucky in know that we will not be working there longer and gives you time to have a GamePlan. Before leaving, make sure you can find someone in your company current can be your reference. My company is waiting to give bonuses as well, but obviously there are some who will not be around long enough to get it. I have a friend in this situation and may feel it will be one of those dismissed in the next two months. Do not think about the bonus, simply do what you need to do to prepare to get another job. I think things happen for a reason, and it is possible that this situation turns out to be the best. Who knows, you get a chance that pays much more and the bond that is supposed to receive even care! Good luck!
