Unemployment in Oregon or Washington?
I work in Portland OR but I live in Washington and now I got a notice of being laid off end of Sep. 09 where should I file my unemployment? Oregon where I worked or Washington where I live? And how much am I going to be paid? I am worried because after almost row years doing great at the job I got laid off, kindly advise, thanks.
Just start with the state you are living in. They will look up your earnings record and if you need to file with them or the other state. They will give you the number to call or the information about the other state if that is who you will need to deal with. This is very common and no problem to work out. I worked construction coast to coast for many years. Often times I worked in 5-6 different states throughout the year and then I would need to go on unemployment for a month in between jobs. It was never much of a problem.
