unemployment rates during the great depression
Where I can find primary raw statistics during the Great Depression?
I need as unemployment rates, GDP, perhaps even the number of people employed in WPA … Please do not just say "bls.gov is good" or "test cia.gov", as I searched in exhaustivelyyy those sites, but can not find the data prior to about 1948 (I need ~ 1928-1942 ish). A useful link to the actual data would be greatly appreciated.
Our government agencies that collect economic statistics did not exist. Some data is in "statistical summaries States Together ", but some of it is a reconstruction of the measured data today may not be as reliable unless you just want a general idea of what was happening. Also can search the academic literature since the depression is being studied, researchers are making a best estimate of the things I do not know enough.
